At the beginning of May the ARRC team travelled over 1200 miles to Hungary to provide an exhibition show to a new and upcoming dragracing track. We were joined by fellow British Pro Mod racer Graham Ellis, FIA Champ Mats Eriksson and crowd pleaser Fast Freddy. Along with a couple of Top Fuels, 1 Fuel Altered and a Top Methanol Funny car.
The travelling was long a long time for everyone. The boys in the truck had over 24 hours of driving (That’s without stops). Leaving on Tuesday night they arrived in the early hours of Friday Morning. The rest of us flew to Slovakia and drove the approx 4 hour journey to the track from there. Although with a Fiat Panda and a VERY long accidental detour in Budapest we didn’t arrive until around 4am Saturday Morning.
Never mind… the excitement and sun got us all ready for the day ahead. However it was obvious that the track wasn’t going to be up to any record breaking runs. Wanting to take it carefully as not to damage anything we tried to do the best we could with the little grip but mostly slid around as if on ice. The burnouts however were a great treat to the crowd who hadn’t seen professional cars race at their home track. The crowd seemed very pleased to see us and gave us a massive cheer when towing back to the pits. Many excited spectators spoke to us over the weekend and a few lucky ones even went away with souvenirs from our broken piston and rod collection.
After 2 runs on the Saturday and Sunday it was time to pack up sharpish and hit the road. It seemed that we only just got there before we were having to go home but it was a great experience and a real honour to be one of the first FIA professional cars to race on the track! As usual members of our crew weren’t able to make the trip due to work commitments we had some extra back up from Andrew Wright (Crew member on Bert Engelfields Pro Mod) and Rick Packham (Crew member on Dave Wilson’s TMD) Without their help it would have been a struggle to get the car ready for all the runs. So we just want to say a big thank you, we hope you enjoyed the experience.
So what’s next for the team? We’re all back home now, the car is being checked over this weekend by the crew and the between race meeting maintenance will take place to ensure all is ready for the Main Event. There are 28 Pro mods entered all running for a 16 car field. Its going to be an amazing show however for us qualifying is going to be tough and there will be no room for mistake! We will have a few new parts with us for the event and will be hoping to continue our performance from the National Finals last year. We’re looking forward to kick starting the FIA Championship!!
See you there!
