I marshaled at circuit races with the BARC, I went to Blackbushe with them where they had drag racing in 1976. I then got invited to go to Santa Pod with the Reading Street and Drag Club.
How and when in the team start up?
In 1979 we started the race team.
What tasks do you do on the car?
The most important job I do is drive the car, but also in between runs I weld up any parts which may have broken etc look at the data logger output with Luke and Bowser to decide on any changes in set up for the next round. I also help with any transmission or clutch work with Luke.
What do you feel the best achievement was from yourself and the team?
There are so many achievements but I think the 6.19 and setting the current European speed record (229.4mph) are our best. Also the 3 British championships we’ve won.

How did you get in to dragracing?
I have been racing since is was six months old and was always hanging about watching Dad in the garage. So I was born into it really.
How and when in the team start up?
I started to help out on the car after the Rover crash in 2000. I helped build the Studebaker and have been involved ever since.
What tasks do you do on the car?
My main job is to maintain and tune the clutch in between rounds. I also analyse the data from the logger regarding the clutch, and sometimes change the ratios and maintain the gearbox.
What do you feel the best achievement was from yourself and the team?
My personal achievement which I am most proud of is being awarded the James Edgar memorial trophy. Which I received for crewman of the year 2005 for my work on the Stude and Collin's '56 Chevy. As a team achievement I am most proud of our performance in Norway 2006. We had problem after problem but overcame all odds to set low E.T with a 6.24 in the final round.

How did you get in to dragracing?
Went to Blackbushe in the early 70’s. I was always interested in motorsport all types, but drag racing in particular.
How and when did you join the team?
I was invited in 1996 by Andy, because previous to that I totaled his old race car in a terrible crash at Avon Park. Been here ever since even through his crash which was also at Avon Park!
What tasks do you do on the car?
Well Bowzer will believe that I do nothing however I do the bottom end of the engine and help out on the top end when we change the heads. (I do the left hand side)
What do you feel the best achievement was from yourself and the team?
Winning the Finals the first year with the blower when we were still getting used to everything. The 1997 and 1998 championship wins with the Rover. (would have won 1999 if we didn’t have to finish the championship early due to the crash)
My achievement is to work with such a brilliant crew and have such a supportive wife which allows me to do this.

I think my own achievement was to get all 8 cylinders between 10°C of eachother.
The team achievement I think was the 6.19, and being nominated for Crew Chief of the year in 2005.

How did you get in to drag racing?
I was born into racing! When I was little I used to go along with my Mum and Dad and have been going ever since.
How and when did you join the team?
2004. At the end of the season 2003 I stopped crewing in Street Eliminator and didn’t have any other plans on crewing at the time. Luke and Andy asked me if I wanted to join the crew as they were one member down. My first season was the season we came out with the Blower engine.
What tasks do you do on the car?
My main jobs are tire pressure, temperatures and the bottom end of the engine with Jerry. I also do the oil and fuel and anything else to help out the other members.
What do you feel the best achievement was from yourself and the team?
My personal achievement is to work on a crew which has success and where we can all enjoy it! For the team I best achievement was the speed record, all the final appearances (and wins!!) but also changing the heads in between rounds in Norway in under 40 minutes.

How did you get in to drag racing?
I was born into drag racing. I my first race meeting was when I was 4 months old. I’ve been going ever since!
How and when did you join the team?
Well I’ve always been on the team but when I was about 15/16 I took more interest in to helping with the car. I started by just helping out where ever I could with the team.
What tasks do you do on the car?
My main job is packing the parachutes after each run. After that I just help out where I can. Cleaning parts and odd jobs like filling the car up with fuel. When we’re ready for the race I’ll steer the car to the startline and help Dad get strapped in. I also go and help collect him from the top end and get the car weighed. I take photos throughout all the race meetings for promotional material and for our website which I co-run with Ryan. |
